Technology - Rapunzel's Tower

This term we have been learning about functions. In room 2 we read about Rapunzel and how she lived in a tower and was never allowed out. Our job was to plan a way for Rapunzel to escape from the tower. We all thought of different ways for her to escape and drew a plan. The next day we used all the recycling material we had brought to school to make models of the tower and the escape routes. These are our plans and models.

Matariki

Matariki is the name for Maori New Year. It is celebrated in late May or early June when the new moon has risen. Matariki is also the name of a group of stars that can be seen at that time. We read about Matariki and wrote about what people do to celebrate Matariki. Please come to Room 2 to see our Matariki mural.

Making Siapo - Tapa Cloth

Talofa,
During Samoan Language Week we drew Samoan patterns onto brown paper with a vivid. Next we painted our patterns with brown dye. Finally we scrunched up the paper until it was soft. Now we have our own tapa cloth called ‘siapo’.
