Room 2's Assembly
On Friday the 13th of May Room 2 had their first assembly for 2016. We had to practise every day so that it went smoothly. We made Maori headbands to wear and sang a waiata. Imogen, Aisling, Olivia, Ryansun and Adam said their pepiha's. Then we presented a play called Greedy Cat is Hungry by Joy Cowley. Adam was a very good Greedy cat and meowed very loudly!

Feasts of the Ascension and Pentecost
In Religious Education we have learnt about the feast days of the Ascension and the Pentecost. For the Ascension we learnt about Jesus' return to heaven. We made a big mural and drew ourselves in the mural looking up as Jesus went up in the clouds. At prayer time we had a tray with a big white candle in the middle and one little white candle for each person in the class. We lit the big candle which is a symbol of Jesus and from the big candle we lit all the little candles. It was a sign of Jesus sharing his love with us.
The next week we learnt about the Pentecost, when God sent the Holy Spirit to the Disciples. We used the candles again but this time we closed our eyes and talked to God in our hearts while the little candles were lit from the big candle.
When we opened our eyes the big candle was gone but the light was burning brightly on our little candles. This showed us that even though Jesus has returned to heaven God the Holy Spirit is still with us.

Rugby Skills Clinic
Today Room 2 had lots of fun playing rugby skill building games with Matt, a coach, from Rugby KIDZ NZ. We had to listen to the instructions really carefully so that we could play the games and stay inside the pink cones.
Our favourite game was Zombies. When a Zombie caught a human, the human became a Zombie! Uikilifi was the last human left.

Greedy Cat
This week we read Greedy Cat is Hungry, by Joy Cowley. We drew Greedy Cat and painted him orange with a roller. Next we added fur by scratching into the wet paint with the end of a wooden paint brush. This technique is a called sgraffito. We wrote stories about Greedy Cat. Come and read them in our cloak bay.

Portraits
In Term 1 Room 2 made collage portraits of what we want to be in the future. We looked at self portraits by New Zealand painter, Rita Angus. First we drew our head and shoulders onto paper, cut it out and chose a background colour to stick it onto. We added facial features, hair and clothes. We showed our finished work to the class and talked about what we want to be. Come and check out our portraits in Room 2.

Easter Rhyme
During lent Room 2 learnt this poem and used it in our prayers each day to help us remember what happened at Easter. We made art work to go with the words.
Can you say the Easter Rhyme to your family?
