Room 2 Phonics Group Celebrates 'b'

Room 2 Phonics Group meets every morning after prayers. We have done so much great learning this term that we decided to celebrate the letter 'b' by blowing bubbles!

Jesus - Our Cultural Identity

In our last lesson of the Jesus Strand, we all wrote the word 'Jesus' in block letters, coloured it in with felt tips and stuck it in our books. Then we looked at the way 'Jesus' is written in the languages of all the cultures in our class. We  wrote Jesus again in all the other languages and put them on a big cross to hang up in our room. When it is Holy Week we can look at the cross and remember that Jesus died to save us all.

St Patricks Day - 17th March

Every year on the 17th of March we celebrate St Patricks Day. This year we had a liturgy in the hall followed by a display of Irish dancing. When we got to class we made a hat for ourselves with a picture of a shamrock and St Patrick on it. We watched a powerpoint that taught us all about the life of St Patrick. It even said that people believe that St Patrick got rid of all the snakes in Ireland. After morning break Mrs Fala invited us to decorate green cupcakes with Room 1. They were delicious. We went onto the field to do Irish dancing and then all got a green snake lolly. Thank you to Mrs Fala for helping to make it such a memorable day.

Jesus Calls Us to Follow Him

In lesson 10 of the Jesus Strand, we read the Bible story about Jesus asking the apostles to follow him. He said that he was going to make them 'fishers of men.' We all chose the name of an apostle and made a headband with their name on it. Next we made a mural of Jesus calling us to follow him. We drew a picture of ourselves for the mural with a speech bubble saying 'Yes Jesus.' Jesus wants us to be his friends and helpers too, just like the apostles.

Room 1 & 2 Swimming Display

On March 16th Room 1 & 2 invited our families to watch us swim. We blew bubbles and used a board to kick across the pool. We showed our arm stokes and swam across the pool without a board too. Some children kicked on their backs, while others showed how they could make a starfish and float on their front and back. We have all improved so much in the last month. Congratulations everyone!

Making Smarties Graphs

In Room 2 we have been learning about statistics. First we made a 'Me Board' to collect information about our favourite colours, ice creams, pets and sports. Next we used the information we had collected to make lots of graphs together. The information we collected is called data.
Finally, we got our own box of Smarties. We used the colours of the Smarties to collect data, sort data, display data and then we talked about what our graphs showed us.

The best part was when we got to eat the data!

Portraits in the Style of Pablo Picasso

In Room 2 we have just completed our self portraits in the style of Pablo Picasso. We looked at lots of cubist art works by Picasso and then used marker pen to draw ourselves the way Picasso might have drawn us. We chose bright crayon colours for our faces and hair. When we had finished we dyed our portraits with black dye. Please come and see our work in Room 2.
