Fractions

In maths we have been finding out about fractions. We learnt that fractions are part of a whole. We started by cutting oranges into halves and quarters and we learnt how to write the fraction for half and quarter. We made our own pizzas and when they were cooked we worked out how many pieces we had to cut them into so that everyone got an equal piece.

Religious Education Celebrations in Term 3

In Term 3 we have had some special celebrations including The feast days of St Mary MacKillop on the 8th of August and the Assumption of Mary into heaven on 15th of August. We also had a special Mass and lunch on Grandparents Day. Our R.E. strand this term has been the Sacrament/ Hakarameta. We learnt about the creation and how we are all connected to God. These are some of our photos.

Counting by 2's, 5's and 10's

This term in maths we have been learning to count by 2's, 5's, and 10's. We threaded beads in 2's and used our beads to help us count by 2. Next we made a pair of socks and displayed them to use for counting by 2. For counting by 5's we used our hands. We made a ladder with 2 hands on each rung to help us count by 5's to 100. When we learnt to count by 10's we filled a tens frame with stickers then joined them all together to help us count by 10.

Matariki

At Matariki we celebrated Maori New Year. We read lots of stories about the seven stars of Matarki and found out how people celebrate the festival each year. We decorated star biscuits, made kites and wrote stories about Matariki too.

Phonics Party

In the last week of T2 Room 1 & 2 had a party to celebrate what we had learnt in phonics. We looked at our alphabet rhyme cards  and got the food to match the cards. We had a wonderful celebration!
