Technology- Baby Carriers

In Term 2 we have been learning about all kinds of baby carriers. We all designed a baby buggy or pram and then made a model of our design. We collected water bottles, boxes, bottle tops, and many other things to make our models. It was very exciting using the drill and hot glue gun. We had to make changes to our designs as we made the model. When we were finished we talked about what we had made and then we displayed our models. Please come and look at them.

Sheridan Syndicate Goes to MOTAT

On Friday the 20th of June the Sheridan Syndicate visited MOTAT as part of our 'Functions' topic.
In the MOTAT classroom we compared and contrasted inventions from long ago with the modern versions that we use today. We had time to look at all the exhibitions, play in the playground and go on a tram ride too. It was a great day.

Quizz Question:
What do the letters in MOTAT stand for?

Greedy Cat Visits Room 2

In Room 2 we have been reading Greedy Cat stories by Joy Cowley. We drew Greedy Cat with vivid and then painted him orange. Next we used the sgraffito technique to create texture on his fur with the wooden end of a paint brush. When we wrote our Greedy Cat stories we added words to describe how sneaky he is. Come over to Room two some time to see our Greedy Cats' and read our stories.

Book Week In Room 2

Every day of Book Week was filled with exciting events at Good Shepherd School. We enjoyed reading with other classes and teachers and meeting authors and illustrators too. Speed Booking and the Literacy Scavenger Hunt were a lot of fun but our favourite thing was getting dressed up as a book character on Friday. Can you find out who we were by looking at our photos?

The Beauty of Autumn

Room 2 have been out to enjoy the beauty of autumn.
Autumn leaves are everywhere so we collected some and brought them into the classroom. We talked about the ways leaves fall off trees and came up with words like flutter, float, glide, twist, twirl, spin and blow. Next we created some autumn leaf dance movements to Vivaldi's 'The Four Seasons'. We also used the leaves we had collected to make leaf rubbings. They look really outstanding and help us to admire the beauty and wonder of nature.

The Holy Spirit - Te Wairua Tapu

Our Religious Education Strand this term has been The Holy Spirit - Te Wairua Tapu. We have learnt that wind, water and fire all remind us of the Holy Spirit of God. This week we made wind chimes with little bells attached to hang by the open windows. At first we couldn't hear the bells because there was no wind. Then on Friday a little breeze blew in our windows and we heard the bells tinkle. We were so excited because it reminded us of the Holy Spirit.

Hot Cross Buns

On Tuesday of Holy Week Room 2 made hot cross buns. We learnt that hot cross buns are special because the cross on top of the buns reminds us that Jesus died on the cross. The yeast in the buns makes the dough rise just as Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday. Carissa May's mother and Aidan Howard's mother and grandmother helped us. It was a lot of fun and the buns tasted delicious. We also learnt the nursery rhyme, Hot Cross Buns.
