Lavalava by Lino Nelisi

During Samoan Language Week Room 2 had a shared book called Lavalava by Lino Nelisi.  We wrote our own lavalava stories about where we wear our lavalavas. Please read our stories.  'Thank you God for creating all the people in the world. We can learn so much from each others cultures and language.'

At the Stardome

We visited the Stardome to discover more about space from the experts. Our guide, John, taught us all about the planets and how they all revolve around the sun. He had models and chose some children to demonstrate how the earth moves around the sun and how planet earth's moon revolves around the earth. Next we looked at the lego models of space ships and we saw some real space suits. The children in Ms Scanlan's group got their photo taken inside an astronaut model. Our next stop was the Stardome theatre where we lay back in our seats and took a journey around space.

It was a great day and we learnt a lot about space!

The Holy Spirit - Te Wairua Tapu

In Religious Education we have been learning about
The Holy Spirit - Te Wairua Tapu. To help us understand who the Holy Spirit is and how the Holy Spirit works in us, we talked about symbols of the Holy Spirit like water, wind and fire and we read Bible stories about the Holy Spirit. Here are some photos of our activities.

Learning about Holy Week and Easter in Room 2

Palm Sunday is at the beginning of Holy Week. We learnt that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. His followers waved palms as he went past. We acted out the story and made a mural with ourselves waving palms.

On Wednesday we made hot cross buns. We kneaded the dough, put a cross on the top and cooked them. We ate them while they were still hot.

Holy Thursday is the last day of lent. We learnt about what happened at the Last Supper. We made a mural and placed ourselves at the table as Jesus' supper guests.

On Good Friday Jesus died on the cross. He was buried in a tomb and a big stone was rolled across the entrance. When his friends went to visit the tomb on Easter Sunday they found that Jesus had risen from the dead. We made a mural with ourselves as friends of Jesus on Good Friday and on Easter Sunday.

Room 2's Assembly

In Week 8 Room 2 had their assembly. We were very excited about being on the stage and talking on the microphone.
We have been learning about 'Resilience' and we did a play called 'Keep Trying' which we adapted from a book by Jane Buxton. Everyone made one of the block letters from the word 'resilience' to decorate the stage.
